A COMMUNITY BAND SINCE 2003
Hertfordshire Big Band was formed in 2003, originally stemming from the Hertfordshire Concert Band. Having been established for over 20 years, the band now is recognised as a highly successful and prolific community jazz orchestra, whose key principles are to enjoy learning new music, challenge themselves, and improve their musicality.

The band has won gold and platinum awards at the National Concert Band Festival in addition to holding workshops and concerts with renowned UK jazz professionals including Mike Lovatt and Pete Long.

The band plays regularly across the county at a number of jazz clubs, venues, and events. Gig highlights include performances at the Watford Jazz Junction Festival, Googlies Jazz Club in Enfield, Berkhamsted Jazz, the Kings Langley Jazz Club, Hitchin's Market Theatre, the Maltings and Roman Open Air Theatres in St Albans, Shenley Walled Gardens, and Southern Maltings Arts Centre in Ware. In addition to these regular concerts, the band has completed a number of successful European tours, most notably to Catalonia and Costa Blanca, Spain.

The Hertfordshire Big Band is currently under the Musical Direction of trumpeter Matt Ward.
